This was the first college project I was involved in. Our assignment was to create a public service announcement on gang violence and our challenge was to eliminate the use of camera movements. Another challenge was shooting at night with no lighting equipment. Any filmmaker could tell you not only the affect it has on your quality, but also how near impossible it is to produce. However, unlike the lighting, the overall idea is very clear. I hope you enjoy.
Very nice indeed. A strong point of this piece in my personal opinion, is the usage of music to set the mood, especially at the end. I enjoyed watching this, and look forward to seeing more of your work.
I believe music is one of the best forms of expression. There is so much feeling and emotion associated with music. It makes it easier to tell a story even without the presence of dialogue. I hope to create much better productions in the future, however, this is a pretty decent start. Thanks for the comment. Happy film making!
The only thing about music is that if it's too obtrusive the piece can feel like a music video. And, everything shouldn't be a music video...But I agree, this is a great start. What's next, Lex?
Agreed. It's actually pretty tough to walk the line of score of expression and music video. It sways too much sometimes to maintain balance.
To answer the question of what's next? I'm not too sure just yet. With a lot of ideas, it all depends on which will be the easiest to produce at any given time.
I have a piece I want to shoot from the perspective of the homeless. It's a monologue piece which will be given from the mind of a homeless man comparing his world to others, and making some very interesting observations. The monologue will be expressed through images as we hear his point of view on what we're seeing in the story. If all is filmed well, it should work out great. And guess what, no music in that one! :) Happy Film making!
I enjoyed this film.Although it was hard, it was still nicely done. I liked the music and the message that was sent. I can't wait to see the piece about the homeless.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. The piece about the homeless make take some time to get done, because I want it done fairly close to how I'm imagining it. I'm still in the much early stages of pre-production with writing, location scouting and so on. However, it will get done at some point. I'm anxious myself to see how it turns out. If all goes well, it should prove to be a pretty interesting short film. Thank you again for taking the time to view the video.
I am a full time college student majoring in Communications with a concentration in T.V. Production. I would like to start my own production company within the next 5 to 7 years. As a long term goal, I'm interested in directing, writing, editing, and producing my own work.
