The video was excellent. Gang violence has become such an important issue in America and many communities affected by poverty. I believe, as far as the Black community is concerned, the absence of positive male figures and/or role models has been a significant reasons for many young Black men joining gangs. Being able to identify with a particular group, peer pressure, the lure of easy and quick money, invoking fear, idle time, the lack of education and the basic need of wanting to feel needed and be a part of something are just some of the reasons for our youth attaching themselves to these groups.
What can we do as a community to deter the behavior that is common with gangs and even possibly dismantle gangs/gang violence? The spread of gang violence has become a disease upon our youth and communities because its not something that is associated with the inner city and low-income persons but has spread all over, particularly the suburbs and middle-class America.
I agree. I think that reasons of peer pressure, fear, lack of parental support; are all prominent roles in determining a role in gangs. What can we do as a community? I think what we need to do, is just that; be a community. Communities need full support of its people in order to make any difference. The problem with out society today, especially blacks in Baltimore, is that they rob and kill each other. We destroy our very own residences and neighborhoods. The things that are made and built for us are the same things we end up tearing down. It's a shame.
I think many people, particularly those involved in gang violence, not only don't care, but are ironically walking blindly with open eyes, unaware of the destruction they are doing to themselves and others they care for.
Gang violence is growing. And it's up to mothers and fathers to shape and mold their children from a young age. Show them strength and character, respect and determination, pride and faith. The blame does not rest entirely on the shoulders of our youth, but those who have helped shaped the minds of our young. The future lies in the hands of our youth, and to me, that is extremely scary. Thank you for your comment.
The message was quite clear. Great ideas put into action with the camera. The black community needs to aggressively address the issue of gang violence. The gangs are not what they were originally created to be. The gangs were created to serve the community. The drive out the crime and drugs. Many ask questions about how and why they became to violent and negative. The answer may be the industrial prison complex. It is set up to lock-up the majority of black men and ultimately make money off of them. In order to do this they must implement certain distractions and obstacles out in society. The law is set up to protect the one's with wealth. The police target a certain public and oppress them. The issue needs to be addressed of innocent lives will continue to be lost. And a strong unique culture will continue to be destroyed.
