Premonition

Smile

I absolutely love music. Music can provide a base to anything. It can tell a story, it can encourage you to reminisce and it can provide the most beautiful imagery to any mental picture. When I hear music, I immediately play images in my head. I develop my own personal "Mind Theater". I love applying song to picture or situation. Music alone can even change the context of almost anything.

When I edit video or apply music to motion pictures, I hear the song first. When I hear the song, I think of scenarios that would best relate to the lyrics of the song and the musical and instrumental sounds. I'm working on further developing a deeper understanding of every angle I could possibly cover in songs. Right now, lyrics are the important factor I'm working with.

This video, "Premonition - Lithium", is one I edited earlier this year. It is of the movie "Premonition" starring Sandra Bullock. As in most of my videos, I use lyrics as the underlying point to the video. This video edit, I believe, works well with the point of the film and the song I chose to use.

For anyone interested in trying to edit any kind of video, you should practice:

  • Timing: timing allows you to macth up certain scenes with relevant information or song lyrics.

  • Effects: effects, such as slow motion, allows you to interpret time. It sets a mood for your video that can change just as quickly as you want it to. I use slow motion in this video to go back and forth between the present and the past.

  • Story Telling: the most important part of editing is story telling. You may be familiar with editing programs and know all of the buttons, but that does not mean you know how to edit. You must be able to successfully tell a story in your editing, and that is not so easy to do.
